On the Edge of Twilight: 22 Tales to Follow You Home
Gregory Miller
(101 Reviews)
Genre: Contemporary Fiction | Short Stories | Fantasy
FREE for a limited time
Gregory Miller writes: “…time fades old frights.” A clever line yet not quite true, if one is to believe these stories, many of which feature the departed and their undiminished entanglement with the living. Miller walks an undulating line between the creepy and nostalgic, the macabre and sweet, the malevolent and innocent – a provocative blend that leaves the reader wistful for many who have passed, but also relieved to leave some of the more vindictive spirits behind. In short, this collection, his third, is a tapestry of diverse tales that resonate in surprising and unusual ways.

First ladies Club: When The Church Has Come Off
Nadia Mathews
(49 Reviews)
Genre: African American | Contemporary Fiction | United States
FREE for a limited time
You’ve seen her: poised and confident, standing beside her faithful man of God or seated on the front pew, legs neatly crossed with her Bible in her lap. You’ve admired her beauty and grace and have especially marveled at her devotion to her position as a First Lady. First Ladies Club: When the Church Hats Come Off paints the portrait of four First Ladies, each with their own private lives, away from the pulpit.
Shenae, founder of the First Ladies’ circle, Deborah’s Daughters, is a prim and proper First Lady: always on time, always put together, and never caught with a hair out of place. Having been under a trail of stresses lately, including a lackluster marriage and continuous problems at her home church, Shenae wakes up one morning, in a lonely bed yet again, and decides she’s had enough.
Six-foot-something, former model turned First Lady Lynette is no stranger to loss. It began with her father’s abandonment of her family at a young age and continued with the loss of her firstborn son after she married her husband and assumed her role as First Lady. Fed up with the church gossip, and in an attempt to break the mold the church and her husband are trying to conform her to, she cuts and dyes her long tresses to a fire-red short haircut. Little does she realize, this is only the first of many changes to come in her life.
Having married her husband after his first wife and First Lady passed away, Natasha was certain that the church members would have a hard time accepting the fact that she, his former secretary, would now be their new First Lady. But she had no idea that years later, her husband would still treat her like an administrative assistant, laughing at her simple suggestions during church meetings, constantly scolding her on proper “First Lady” etiquette, and always addressing her in an abrasive tone. She is unaware of her husband’s secret, but all truth comes to light eventually.
The ladies of Deborah’s Daughters are in for a surprise when they meet their newest member and fellow First Lady, Amauri, for the first time. Find out what happens when the church hats come off!
