As much as I hate exercise, I do go to the gym. I gotta keep it together at least a little bit for Tough Mudder each year. Don’t worry, I am not gonna start blabbing on and on about Tough Mudder for another few months. My gym is a nice place, friendly people and very small. There are a few key people there that train for weightlifting competitions and they are mixed in closely with the rest of us. So now that I have set this up, I can tell you just how nerdy awkward I am. Sometimes I just wanna smack myself on the back of my head. There was a new guy working out with the serious lifters. He looked pretty fit and was lifting pretty heavy weights. I was next to him, not lifting heavy weights. Everyone seemed to be giving him a bit of attention, and I had no clue why. At one point the topic of conversation turned to the aches and pains we all suffer from. This was something that I could relate to, so I asked him what he did that caused him to have so many injuries. His answer was he played professional football for the Seahawks for four or five years. Nice! I then asked him what he was doing now and his answer was, “I work out” I smiled at him. That’s it. I just stood there smiling at him like a fool. The only thought going through my head was white noise. He stared at me for a bit, waiting for me to hold up my end of the conversation, but I let him down. Finally he gave me a pleasant smile and went back to working out. I hate myself sometimes.
