I wonder if the turkeys feel the change in the air. Does the night of the little goblins with sweets in their bags announce the month of doom for them? I saw a huge flock running around downtown, carefree and happy as can be. It might have been their last celebration before the time comes to hide in fear. I wonder if cranberries are little jewels of death to them. Hmmph… I’m getting hungry.

The Factory Line
Ian Truman
(7 Reviews)
Genre: Humor & Satire | Humor & Entertainment | Literary Fiction
FREE for a limited time
Ian starts his shift at 6:59 in the industrial wasteland of Montreal-East only to finish his day, fifteen hours later, in the notorious red light district. Simple as that. Low key, gritty, trashy… funny as hell. The Factory Line is Ian Truman’s true-ish account of life in a Montreal factory. The foreman’s on a rampage, a blonde bombshell sells hydraulic forklifts in high heels, Maurice’s fucking Marlon Brando on the job but there’s still beer in the toilet tank so everything should be alright. Somewhere between Charles Bukowski’s disdain for life, Henry Rollins’ fighting spirit and Mordecai Richler’s comedic satire, The Factory Line feels like a punk rock song for the literary world: ‘get in, say what you have to say and get the heck out.’

YANKEE GOLD is the tale of a post-civil war chase through the defeated South, across war torn Alabama, burned Mississippi, and a reeling Louisiana, and finally into a defiant Texas for a climactic shootout where the hunted becomes the hunter. Travis Ford, a beaten and tortured Confederate soldier is condemned to hang for war crimes against the Union Army. A daring escape with a strongbox filled with gold, has Ford running for his life with Union soldiers on his trail at every turn. Sgt. Lyle Burdee, a cruel authoritarian that swore to bring Ford back, leads the Yankee patrol. It did not matter to him if Ford lived or died; his orders were clear, “Get Ford, and bring back the gold.” The old South is dead, burned and in ruins, families shattered, and tens of thousands of dead and maimed that will never return home. The new South is swamped with desperate men, gangs of freed slaves not knowing where to go or what to do. Hordes of greedy carpetbaggers from the North descend on the South like a plague of locusts devouring everything in their path, changing a once proud people into subordinate victims. Yankee Gold paints a vibrant picture of a vanquished people in a time when the entire country was left reeling from a long and bloody war. Travis Ford is a quiet soft-spoken man that just wants to return home to his family and farm. When he arrives, he finds his wife dead, his daughter kidnapped, and his farm destroyed. With little time-spent mourning, he vows to find his daughter, and kill the man that lured her away. With the Union patrols chasing him, he begins his pursuit of Otis Brownlee, his archenemy. In a climactic ending, Travis Ford deals out his own brand of justice.
