My poor baby basset asked me if Summer vacation was almost over. I very confidently informed it it was still only June, and not to worry about it. Today is August first. I’m glad he asked me that yesterday. I am dreading Summer vacation being over with. I love hanging out with my baby bassets, and not having any homework. It’s not like I can help them with their homework, for gosh sakes it’s 5th and 6th grade math. What do I look like? A GENIUS!? I do have to nag them a bunch though to do it and check all the time to make sure they get their work turned in as well. That last part I never got. My oldest has a tendency to do the work, just not turn it in. Then I nag him and he turns it in late for half credit. Back when I was in school, if I did my work you can sure as heck know I would turn it in. I needed as much credit as possible to make up for my test grades.

JADE
Twenty-four hours.
A no-strings-attached adventure with the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen — this was my alcohol-slash-lust-fueled proposal, and given before I could consider the potential ramifications. While his looks alone are enough to make a girl swoon, it’s the rest of him — a perfect balance of mysterious, sweet, and effortlessly charming — that draws me in. Through his cryptic comments and half-answers, he’s quickly become an enigma I’m determined to solve.
One way or another, this adventure promises to snap the stagnant, lackluster pattern my love life has been locked in lately.
Is it naive and a little reckless to think this won’t blow up in my face? Probably.
But the bigger question is the only one I need to answer…
Is the chance to soar among the stars worth the risk of being burned when the sun eventually rises?
EMMETT
Love is a mistake I won’t make again.
My rules are simple. Keep things surface-deep. Don’t make plans. And never, ever get attached.
One look at her is all it takes for me to break my first rule.
One conversation with her is all it takes for me to question everything.
Which means accepting her proposal is bound to be a mistake.
She has no idea who I am or what kind of demons I live with, so I tell myself there’s no harm in spending one day with her. But the more I lose myself in her, the more she brings me out of the darkness and into her light, the harder it’ll be to let her go.
When reality comes crashing down on us in the worst way possible, I have to decide between walking away… or risking everything for the woman who breaks all of my rules.
Why Stars Chase the Sun is the first full-length novel of the Forget Me Knot series, but can be read as a standalone. **Due to strong language and sexy times, it is recommended to readers ages 18 and up.**

Once Upon a Flock: Life with My Soulful Chickens
by Lauren Scheuer
(109 Reviews)
Genre: Crafts, Hobbies & Home
FREE for a limited time
When longtime illustrator and lover of power tools Lauren Scheuer was looking for a project, she got the idea to raise backyard chickens. Her husband and teenage daughter looked on incredulously as coop sketches and chicken-raising books filled their New England home. But when the chicks arrived, the whole family fell in love with the bundles of fluff and the wild adventures began.
Once Upon a Flock: Life with My Soulful Chickens stars Scheuer’s backyard chickens — with their big personalities, friendships, rivalries, and secrets — and the flock’s guardian, Marky the terrier. The flock includes Hatsy, the little dynamo; Lil’White, the deranged and twisted Buff Orpington; Pigeon, the fixer-upper chicken; and Lucy, the special-needs hen who bonds with Lauren and becomes a fast friend.
This charming story of Lauren’s life with her quirky flock is filled with moments of humor and heartbreak: When Lucy is afflicted with a neurological disease, Lauren builds Lucy a special-needs coop. When Lucy’s nesting instinct leads
Lauren to act as a chicken midwife of sorts, Lauren hatches a chick in her home. And when Lucy’s best friend Hatsy falls ill, Lauren finds an unlikely friend for Lucy in a chicken named Pigeon, who requires an emergency bath and blow-dry. Enthusiastically immersing herself in the world of her flock, Lauren discovers that love, loss, passion, and resilience are not only parts of the human experience, but of the chicken experience as well. Throughout it all, Lauren documents the laughter and drama of her flock’s adventures with her own whimsical photos and illustrations. At once humorous, poignant, and informative, Once Upon a Flock is a feathered tale like no other.
