I realized at 2am this morning when I woke up for no reason what so ever, that a lot of the things I thought were punishments as a kid, are now my favorite things as an adult. We can start with the obvious one, Naps. I remember fighting having to take naps liek a rabid squirrel. I thought my parents were so mean because they were forcing me to lay in my comfy soft bed under a warm blanket, and rest. Why on Earth would anyone fight that? Keep in mind you know I was fighting them just a few hours earlier when they were trying to get me out of bed that morning. UGH! I was so lame. The next one is not for everyone, but I remember having to pull weeds with my dad on Saturdays. He would make a pile of weeds, and all I had to do was put them in a bag. Looking back this wasn’t a big ask, but kids are dramatic. These days I relish the time in the garden pulling weeds, deep in my thoughts, and taking pride in my progress.  That feeling of accomplishment is wonderful. The last thing is veggies. My parents were excellent cooks, so the fact that I would gag when I was forced to eat my veggies at dinner makes me feel like a real jerk. Nowadays I gobble them down like an animal. I don’t like to ask my baby bassets if they want seconds. I stay quiet hoping they don’t see the last few pieces of broccoli. I might have been a jerk of a kid. Hmmph
